Professor Douglas de Castro from the School of Law – Lanzhou University, published February 9 an opinion article on the most prestigious Brazilian legal media outlet  – Conjur.

The article's title is ' A New Word Order with Chinese Characteristics?' available on https://www.conjur.com.br/2022-fev-09/castro-ordem-mundial-caracteristicas-chinesas (in Portuguese only).

Professor Castro argues in the article remembers the tremendous success of the 'end of history' thesis in the 1990s formulated by Francis Fukuyama, in which liberalism emerged victorious over socialism. He also remembers that the triumph of liberalism was not able to bring happiness and development as screamed at the time, au contraire, the challenges in the world grew in number and complexity, and the international system became a game board with a zero-sum prevalence.

Considering this scenario, professor Castro presents the emergence of China as an important actor in the international system that brings a mentality of win-win anchored in its internal success in providing social and economic welfare to the people. In addition, China is tackling severe problems, such as climate change, making a meaningful contribution to the world, thus, becoming a paradigm.

The success of China on several fronts and its constructivist approach makes other states uncomfortable, especially those that used to play hardball in international relations.
