Professor Douglas de Castro from the School of Law – Lanzhou University - has granted a live interview on January 31st  to the Brazilian TV network Jovem Pan about Brazil's invitation to be a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The interview (in Portuguese only) is available on the TV's website:

Professor Castro has emphasized that Brazil is already an observer member of the OECD since 1994 and that the invitation received is the preliminary step for the admission process, which takes some time and requires several legal and economic changes to comply with the OECD's bylaws.

He stressed that regardless of the invitation from the OECD, Brazil needs to pay more attention to its partners in the BRICS (an international organization formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), which are more connected to the realities and expectations of the developing countries. He pointed out that this is especially true regarding China, nowadays the second-largest economic partner of the country.
