From May 22 to 23, 2021, the “Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and International Law” seminar and the 2021 academic annual meeting of Chinese Society of International Law and the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the legitimate seat of the United Nations: China’s International Law Contribution Seminar was held in Haikou. The conference was co-organized by Chinese Society of International Law and Hainan University. More than 630 people from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Commerce and other relevant departments, international organizations including United Nations, and experts and representatives from all over the world attended the meeting. Professor Wu Shuangquan, Wang Tiantian, and Qu Zichao from the International Law Division of LULS attended the meeting.

The conference centers on the idea of “Coordinating the Domestic Rule of Law and Foreign-related Rule of Law: To Start a New Journey in the Research and Application of International Law”. Closely related to the requirements of Xi Jinping’s rule of law to promote the domestic and foreign-related rule of law, the conference conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as the building of a foreign-related legal system, the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and international law, the use of international law to prevent and respond to risks and challenges, and the advancement of the reform of the global governance system. They also discussed how to strengthen the research and application of international law under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s rule of law in the new era. During the conference, the society also held a seminar on “the 50th Anniversary of Restoration of the Legitimate Seat of the United Nations: China’s Contributions to International Law”. As one of a series of activities for the purpose, this conference reviewed the glorious history of China’s returning to the United Nations in the past 50 years as well as it great contribution followed.

The teachers and students of the International Law Division of our schools attached great importance to this conference, actively prepared the papers, carefully wrote and submitted to the conference the two academic papers entitled as “The Generation of Sovereignty in Cyberspace from the Perspective of Dialectics” and the “The Development and Future of the Direct Jurisdiction over Private International Law on The Hague Conference”. Also, at the request of the conference committee, we deliver keynote speeches on the content of the two papers.

The Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of International Law is the highest-level academic conference in the field of international law in China. It is a great honour to be invited and deliver speeches to make our voice heard at the event, which could also further broaden the academic vision of international law discipline, enhance the reputation and influence of our school at home and abroad, and promote exchanges and cooperation between our school and its counterparts.
