The 6th 'China Arbitration Week' ，Lanzhou University

On 16^th September, 2018, the 6th 'China Arbitration Week' Lanzhou University forum was held in the Siyuan lecture Hall of Lanzhou University (Chengguan Campus). The forum was jointly sponsored by Lanzhou University Law School, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and other institutions.

'China Arbitration Week' is an arbitration activity jointly initiated by the internationally renowned arbitration institution, China International Economic , Trade Arbitration Commission, China Renmin University, China Lawyers Association and Beijing Lawyers Association, aiming to expand the arbitration , publicity, promotion of the internationalization and modernization of arbitration, law education, and improve the understanding and response of senior executives and professional lawyers in arbitration, and training of arbitration talents with world-class standards. As an annual event of the Chinese arbitration field, China Arbitration Week has been held for five years and has been widely recognized and actively participated by all walks of life. The Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council is a supportive institution for the China Arbitration Week.

Xu Wei, Deputy Secretary General of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, attended and delivered a speech.

The forum was jointly held by Gansu Provincial Supervision Commission, Gansu Provincial Government Legal Office, Gansu Provincial Higher People's Court and other departments and institutions with over 200 students and scholars attended.

This forum was organized with the theme of “The Development and Opportunities of Commercial Arbitration in the New Era”. Dr. Chai Yuhong, Associate Professor of Law School of Lanzhou University and Director of the Legal Research and Service Center of Lanzhou University School of Law, presided over the opening ceremony of this event. Yu Shuyi, Dean, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Lanzhou University Law School, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Xu Wei, deputy secretary-general, Zhong Hong, director of the Beihai Arbitration Commission and dean of the Beihai International Court of Arbitration, delivered their opening speeches.

The keynote report of the forum was presided over by Dr. Chi Fangxu, associate dean and associate professor of Lanzhou University School of Law. Professor Song Lianbin, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of International Law of China University of Political Science and Law, and executive director of the China Institute of Private International Law, published the article entitled “Arbitration and The combination of mediation, China's reality and problems”, and he discussed that the theory and reality of combining arbitration and mediation is mainly on the limitations of arbitration and mediation, the legitimacy issue and the improvement of the combination of arbitration and mediation.

The guest speaker of the forum was presided over by Dr. Li Zhiqiang, Associate Professor of Lanzhou University Law School and Director of Law Education and Management Training Center of Lanzhou University Law School. Professor of China Arbitration College of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Ma Zhanjun, Executive Dean of Beihai International Arbitration Institute, and Associate Professor of Law School of Lanzhou University Jianfeng and Dr. Li Xiaojing, a lecture of Law School of Lanzhou University, gave a keynote speech on the credibility of China's commercial arbitration, the issue of arbitral default ruling and the international investment dispute settlement mechanism under the “Belt and Road Initiative”; Dr. Yang Sanzheng, Professor of Lanzhou University Law School and  Dr. Deng Xiaobing, an associate professor at the School of Law Lanzhou University, commented separately.

At the end of the forum, Professor Yu Shuyi, Dean of Lanzhou University Law School, made a summary. Dean Yu stated that this event is the first national large-scale arbitration week held by Lanzhou University Law School. More experts, scholars and legal practitioners are welcome to be present in the future events. The University of Lanzhou Law School is willing to build a platform for the government, enterprises and social units to conduct joint research and cooperation, to carry out effective cooperation, serve the overall situation of social and economic development, and to promote regional economic development. Law school looks forward to working together with arbitration law research and education and training!

As a continuation of the special forum of Lanzhou University in this “China Arbitration Week”, Professor Song Lianbin and Dr. Ma Zhanjun gave a series of lectures on “China Arbitration Week” at Lanzhou University Chengguan Campus and Yuzhong Campus respectively from  17-18^th September 2018, Lanzhou University . This 'China Arbitration Week'is also one of the series of academic activities of Lanzhou University Law School on '110th Anniversary of Lanzhou University', which offered a broader space and established a new platform for discussing and promoting the new development of commercial arbitration in the new era with a new mission.
