Lanzhou University Team Participating at the 2019 International Criminal Court Moot Competition

As magnolia blossoms in early spring, thirty four university teams from all over the country gathered at the China University of Political Science and Law (Changping Campus) to participate in the (English)China Selection Competition of 2019 International Criminal Court Moot Competition. For the first time, Lanzhou University Law School sent a delegation team to participate in the competition . The delegation team was composed of five graduate students and was led by Zhang Yaning, Secretary of the League Committee of Lanzhou University.

The opening ceremony of the 2019 International Criminal Court Moot Competition  was held on the 22nd of March in the third amphitheater of Gewu Building, Changping Campus, China University of Political Science and Law. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Ma Chengyuan of the International Law School. President Huang Jin of China University of Political Science and Law delivered an opening speech. He warmly welcomed the participating teachers and students from 34 universities in China. He hoped that all the participating teams would do their best in the Moot Competition and wished it a complete success.

Subsequently, Viviane Elena Dittrich, Vice-President of the International Nuremberg Principles Institute, Germany, delivered a speech entitled 'The Ongoing Significance of the Nuremberg Trials and Nuremberg Principles'.

On the 23rd of March at 9:40 a.m., the Moot Competition officially began. After a day and a half of fierce competition, delegates from 12 universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, University of Foreign Economics and Trade, Wuhan University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Foreign Affairs College and Beijing Normal University, qualified for the quarterfinals.

On the afternoon of March 24th, the quarterfinals were held at the Mingfa Building in Changping Campus. The finals were open to teachers and students from all participating universities. After nearly two hours of an intense competition, China University of Political Science and Law, Tsinghua University, University of Foreign Economic and Trade and Peking University finally came out as the top four and they qualified to participate in the international tournament in Hague, the Netherlands in June.

In the course of the competition, the students of our college prepared carefully and grappled hard, showing a good spirit, which was unanimously affirmed and praised by the judges.
